Did I miss something during the election? In the days since the vote, there seems to have been an avalanche of bad economic news. Retail sales have collapsed. Personal bankruptcies have hit a record. Repossessions are a decade high. The Bank of England has scaled back its growth forecast.

And yet, only a week ago, New Labour was campaigning in the strength of its economic record.

Did Honest Gordon not know about any of these figures?

Were they held back until after the election was over?

Perish the thought. He wouldn't do something like that....would he?
